Institute on College Financials
On April 8, 2016 Colleges of the Fenway hosted the inaugural Institute On College Financials. Made possible by a grant from the Davis Educational Foundation, 50 faculty and staff members participated in the day-long program that provided a big picture view of the economics of higher education and economic challenges. One goal of the institute is for faculty and staff to take a more active and informed role in their colleges’ governance and strategic planning.
Rich Doherty, President of AICUM, served as the keynote, providing an presentation on “The Economics of Higher Education”. Additional presentations included “The Tuition Driven Schools’ Dilemma” and “Financial Models for Higher Education Institutions”.
A second Institute on College Financials was offered on February 20, 2017 at Simmons College with over 25 faculty and staff members in attendance. Opening remarks and morning keynote was offered by Kurt Steinberg, Senior Vice President, Finance and Administration from MassArt. The institute included presentations and a team case study, with innovative ideas presented at the conclusion.
